The Ultimate Home Cleaning Guide
Our customers ask us about how we’re able to get their entire home or office clean so quickly.
It’s about systems.
Build the right system for your home, and keeping it clean will be quick and fun. We’re here to help you, both in our cleaning packages and in providing detailed instructions and guidance.
Let’s get going!
Starting in the Kitchen
Begin by filling your kit with cloths, check your tools, and fill all bottles.
Start high, dusting as you make your way to the kitchen. A dry cotton cloth is great.
Clear sinks and counter, if possible. Also, refrigerator front, cabinet doors, etc.
If cabinet doors need attention, mix All Purpose cleaner at the higher rate and spray liberally, focusing around door and drawer pulls. Allow 2-3 minutes and wipe dry.
Spray appliance fronts, microwave interior, and any other areas above counters. Light fixtures, windows, backsplash, etc. can all be effectively cleaned this way. Wipe dry.
Spray stovetop liberally with A.P., scrub with white pad or melamine sponge, allow to sit 3-5 minutes. Respray if necessary. Ceramic cooktops should be polished now. Wipe clean and dry.
Spray counters liberally. There should be a continuous film of A.P. cleaner on all areas.
Spray sinks liberally with the Sink/tub/tile cleaner, scrub with white pad immediately.
Wipe counters and sinks dry. Expect to use 3-4 cotton cloths per kitchen cleaning.
Bedrooms and living areas
Begin with high dusting if needed, continuing to lower areas with a dry cloth until all surfaces have been addressed.
Coffee tables, patio doors, handrails, doorknobs, any high-use surface can be sprayed and wiped with our All-Purpose formula.
Tidy all areas to prepare for floor cleaning.
Restrooms
Start by refilling your bottles, then liberally spray sinks and toilets. The foaming action of our sink/tub/tile formula will help it to stick on surfaces and work while you do. Scrub if needed.
Spray mirrors, countertops, and cabinets with A.P. Wipe mirrors first, moving down before the cleaner dries.
Wipe sinks, then toilets. Flush, wait until the tank is full, then lightly spray the toilet bowl and leave it. No more rings!
Spray tub and surround liberally. We recommend the melamine sponge for scrubbing shower surrounds and doors. Rinse with water from the tub faucet, pouring water down the walls of the shower. A big cup stashed under the sink works great for this!
We often wipe restroom floors hand-and-knees, but they can be flat mopped if desired. In any case, liberally spray the floor with A.P. and dry it with cotton towels or microfiber pads
Flooring/Finishing the job
We use backpack vacuums or dust mops for hard flooring, and commercial upright bagged vacuums for carpeting. If you’re interested in the right machines for your home, check out our guide.
We recommend dusting hard floors first, then vacuuming rugs and carpets.
Finally, time to mop. Our preferred method using microfiber pads includes a small bucket of water for rinsing the pad. Mix the A.P. cleaner at a very low concentration, no more than one tsp. per gallon. Alternatively, spray the floor as you go. Just be sure to take the pad off and rinse it out once it starts to dry up as you’re mopping. For more information, see our “learn to mop like a champ” -----here-----
Make sure you’ve gone over your tracks to avoid any footprints.
